Steven Mehle grew up on Canada’s west coast, immersed in the world of industrial welding and fabrication. By age 15, he was crafting molds and casting jewelry in a local store, setting the stage for a lifelong passion for precision and artistry.
After graduating from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in 1997 and gaining three years of bench experience by age 18, Steven completed a goldsmith apprenticeship and honed his skills at the GIA laboratory in Carlsbad, California. Over decades at the bench, he mastered everything from intricate platinum restorations to repairing sentimental costume jewelry that others deemed impossible to fix.
Frustrated by recurring issues caused by poorly designed locks and a shortage of skilled artisans, Steven was driven to re-engineer locking mechanisms to create more durable, versatile and sustainable solutions.
As a result, the groundbreaking Djinn locking mechanism was born.
